On Saturday, December 16, 2024, the East London Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came together in a spirit of service and unity for a 5km Fun Run/Walk in support of the East London Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The event formed part of the Light the World campaign, focusing on sharing hope and kindness through simple acts of service. Instead of an entry fee, participants were invited to donate cat or dog food, which was later gifted to the SPCA to support their ongoing work in animal welfare.
The fun run saw just over 200 participants take part, with a further 30 volunteers assisting with marshalling, handing out water bottles, and managing registration. Many of those involved were community members and friends of the Church. The success of this event stands as a reminder that simple acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference, inspiring others to follow the Saviour’s example of serving others.
