Cape Town, South Africa – 13 December 2025 - As part of its annual Light the World initiative, The Cape Town Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partnered with Empowering Eats and 4impilo Mental Fitness Centre to provide much-needed relief to families in Khayelitsha. The day began with members of the Church from across Cape Town gathering at the Meadowridge Chapel to pack food hampers for 160 families, identified by 4impilo Mental Fitness Centre. Volunteers then travelled to Khayelitsha.

In the days leading up to the event, fresh food and pantry items were delivered by the Church to the Empowering Eats kitchen, where dedicated staff and volunteers prepared the meals for distribution. With additional ingredients and their signature spices, Empowering Eats successfully prepared 1,500 nutritious meals, which were handed out on the day by all three organisations working together.

Through this service, Church volunteers sought to follow the example of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, by lifting heavy hearts, bringing joy, and offering hope through simple but meaningful acts of kindness. The initiative reflected the belief that sincere service can strengthen communities and remind individuals that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

This event also highlighted the power of collaboration and unity in service. As Elder Carl B. Cook has taught, “As we unite to serve one another, we accomplish much more together than we could on our own”. President Imani Mwaipopo, First Counsellor in the Cape Town Stake Presidency, expressed heartfelt thanks to the Khayelitsha community, as well as to the local organisations whose partnership and trust enabled this meaningful service.
