Elder Philip J. Mathemera

Elder Philip J. Mathemera was named an Area Seventy and a member of the Third Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the April 2026 general conference.

Elder Mathemera has served in a number of Church callings, including branch presidency counselor, bishopric counselor, stake president, and president of the Uganda Kampala Mission, and temple groundbreaking director.

Elder Mathemera earned a bachelor of arts degree in communications in 1986 and a master of business administration degree in 2004, both from the University of Zimbabwe. He also earned a doctor of philosophy degree in business management from Christ University, Bangalore, India, in 2018. He has worked as a high school teacher, a regional manager, and a marketing manager. He worked as the director of sales and marketing for Sable Chemical Industries Limited from 2015 to 2022. Since 2025 he has worked as cofounder and consultant for Philbar Consultancy Limited and Community Builders Trust.  

Philip Jomeya Mathemera was born in Masvingo, Zimbabwe on December 12, 1963. He married Barbara Faith Kwangware in 1992. They are the parents of three children. Elder and Sister Mathemera reside in Hatfield, Zimbabwe.
